Frequently Asked Questions
Everything you need to know about NX Infinity, multi-core setup, performance optimizations, and legal guidelines.
Q1 What is NX Infinity?
NX Infinity is a free, all-in-one Nintendo Switch emulation platform that bridges four distinct emulation cores — Kenji, Ryujinx Canary, Eden, and Citron — into a single unified application via NXAPI. It allows per-game core selection, unified save management with rollback, 60 FPS performance optimizations, and built-in multiplayer.
Q2 What are the 4 emulation cores used in NX Infinity?
NX Infinity features two C#/.NET cores based on the Ryujinx lineage (Kenji-NX and Ryujinx Canary) and two C++ cores based on the Yuzu lineage (Eden and Citron). This enables you to pick the exact engine that delivers the best stability and framerate for each specific game title. Read more in our Core Lineage & Open Source Credits or explore our Core Architecture Matrix.
Q3 Is NX Infinity free to use?
Yes, NX Infinity is 100% free of charge. Continuous builds and updates are available directly via our Download Center and verified community channels.
Q4 Does NX Infinity include games, ROMs, or encryption keys?
No. NX Infinity strictly does NOT distribute copyrighted ROMs, game dumps, prod.keys, or Switch system firmware files. Users must supply their own legally dumped cryptographic keys and firmware obtained from their personal physical Nintendo Switch console. For legal policies and fair use details, please review our DMCA & Legal Disclaimer.
Q5 How do I install NX Infinity on Windows?
Download the release archive from our Download Page, extract the entire archive into a clean directory on your system (e.g. C:\Games\NX Infinity), and launch NX Infinity.exe. Follow our 3-step setup walkthrough on the download page for full instructions.
Q6 Does NX Infinity work on Linux and Steam Deck?
Yes, experimental compatibility is supported via Proton. Extract the ZIP in Desktop Mode, add NX Infinity.exe as a Non-Steam Game in Steam, force Proton Experimental in properties, and launch using the Vulkan graphics backend. See our Cross-Platform Readiness breakdown for hardware notes.
Q7 What is NX Orbit?
NX Orbit is NX Infinity's built-in multiplayer network system. In the current release, it provides experimental Local Wireless (LDN) peer-to-peer multiplayer on Kenji and Ryujinx Canary cores without requiring external VPN configurations. Check out the NX Orbit Features Guide for supported games and room discovery details.
Q8 How do I report bugs or performance regressions?
Join our official Discord server and post in the #bug-reports channel. Be sure to provide the game name and update version, the emulation core used, your system hardware specs, and an exported log file. You can also discuss general performance in our Reddit Community.
Q9 Why isn't my game running at 60 FPS?
Framerate performance depends heavily on the specific title's original physics engine and your system hardware. While NX Infinity incorporates 60 FPS timing patches and dedicated Vulkan shader compiler workers, demanding titles may require an RTX 3060 / RX 6600 or higher. Explore our Performance & Stutter Reduction features to learn how our multi-core engine optimizes compilation.
Q10 Can I import my save files from standalone Ryujinx or Yuzu?
Yes. NX Infinity includes a one-way save importer in the Save Manager settings. You can browse to your old Ryujinx or Yuzu NAND save directories and import them safely into NX Infinity's unified save repository. Learn more in our Unified Save Manager Overview.
Q11 Is NX Infinity affiliated with Nintendo?
No. NX Infinity is an independent open-source emulation project and is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or partnered with Nintendo Co., Ltd. All trademarks and brand names belong to their respective owners. Please read our About & Lineage Statement and DMCA Disclaimer for full legal attribution.
